Fashion HAUL

Jacob! Aldo! Lancome!

Boys won't care for this post. Then again, either will girls with traditional taste. I'm excited though.  I know from my fabulous bloggers out there that coloured denim is totally hot .... well, if you are into that thing then Jacob is the place for you. They have skinny jeans in all the hot colours for $29.99. I know because I bought a zillion pairs. I also went deep diving in the bargain rack and found all the sleeveless tops I needed for 40% off. Granted if you want neon yellow be prepared to pay full price. I'll wait. As far as I can tell the fashion of the moment is totally the skinny jean. I've resisted it. It's not the best look but I'm doing it this spring. I also said I'd never wear a flat .... I own a pair with skulls on them now (even though my friend calls them my Hugh Hefner slippers). I follow trends and probably should be shot.

So I realized my CFM boots wouldn't look proper in spring. What is a girl to do? Pumps! Do you get Lou Lou Magazine? If not, go buy one! Aldo has 20% off with the Lou Lou coupon and tres sexy pumps! They aren't even (that) uncomfortable. You can roll up you skinnies and have cute new capris for summer. Ps. I totally lied - I wore the pumps today. I want to die. Will I wear them again, HELL YA! They look cute and I need a refresher to my wardrobe. I can't wait for sandal weather though! Bring it on!

Lastly Lancome .... Ya, MAC is cool but Lancome has way better stuff ... especially in your thirties. The cream is worth buying anything. The mascara is the best on the market. I can even find my lovely skin tone (orange) in their line. Check it out. It costs more but the benefits are totally worth it. Talk to me after my botox appointment .. kidding ... well, if I could afford it I totally would ... so nevermind.

One of my five 29.99 dollar jeans .... as young looking as I could without being overboard.

Wooh Hoo Old lady Polyester tops are in style and on sale. Long tops for those skinny pants ....Leggings are still not pants people. Cover thy private areas. In my view you must be covered even in a skinny jean - that's just me though.

Loved these Aldo shoes until I spent a day in them. I also bought a pair in black. I will wear them ... I will ... until beautiful sandal weather. Please bring that weather on asap. I'm dying!

Pretty but Painful

Owwwww - 80 dollars and ow? How can this be? I even bought the insoles?

Almost bought the entire colour spectrum but they didn't have my size.

It looks like an old man coat but just wait ... it's short ... it's cute ...

Lancome Bonus - You choose your blush, your lipstick, your eye shadow and cream. It's the best stuff out there! Way better than any MAC product or Clinique. I say so!

Now I can't lie I follow many blogs. Here are a few that I absolutely love and keep me as current as an old broad like me can be. If you don't trust me then you can trust them for sure!

The Works - Barrhaven

I don't know about you but I love a burger. I love a veggie burger to be precise. Now I can't claim it's fabulous'ness for the real beef eaters out there but I absolutely adore The Works. I asked my meat-eating spouse what he thought on the meat issue ... It's good, it's fresh, it's done as you say you want it done. So, I'm guessing all thumbs up for the meat eaters too! Ps. He's picky.

If you do choose a veggie burg like I do don't despair. My friend brought home her leftovers and fed it to her carnivore husband and he couldn't tell the difference ... until she said 'btw that was a veggie'.

I've been a semi-vegetarian (I eat chicken now) since I was 16 .... I'm 36. I don't know what red meat actually tastes like ... but I do LOVE the works veggie burgers. Is this what meat tastes like? Perhaps I should have some?

Now, let me tell you a secret - fill out the survey and get a tower of rings! I was told by the lovely hostess that there are no rules ... fill it out after you get your bill and a free tower of onion rings is yours ... regardless if you order something else .... this may change now that this is posted so run, run like the wind! Update: I found out it's only one per table if your server is on the ball. Still it's Onion Rings!!!! It's almost 10 bucks for a tower of rings and you get it for zero dollars. Me likey!  Ps. An upgrade from fries to onion rings is $3.56 per person .... They are really good ... but you get a free tower if you fill out the survey ....you decide.

Soooo, what did we order?

Prepare to spend extra if you want different side dishes. I've only had the poutine and onion rings.. Ps. All dipping sauces are freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Try the beechhouse dip - but bring a mint. They don't provide them for you after the meal. They really should start doing that in my opinion.

There are so many options! It's all so good ... don't be afraid ... if you don't like one it won't break the bank!

Diet Coke - done the proper way!

M.E.C. - fresh avocado, beechhouse sauce, sundried tomato & feta cheese (with two beechhouse dips that are inevitably stolen). I've had many types but this is my absolute favourite.

Royal Runner - tomatoes & crinkle-cut pickles with our famous royal supreme sauce 11.92 - If you love the sauce ask for double! This is a pic of double sauce!

Malibu Meltdown -crunchy o-ring, beechhouse, havarti, gouda & brie ...VROOOM!

There are locations in Burlington, Guelph, Halifax, Kingston, London, Oakville, Ottawa, Toronto, Waterloo, Peterborough,

Try it! If you don`t love it at least the onion rings are on them the next time!  :)

Ps. I've been here a zillion times and not gone on the web to get my free rings. It's just that good! Pss. I may also be lazy... but OMG the rings are ssoooooooooooooooooooo good!!!!

Pinelopi's Greek Kitchen

If you are anything like me you like good food! I mean food that you dream of at night. If that's the case you should definitely try Pinelope's. It's located in Barrhaven near The Royal Oak. Don't bother with the Oak though ... seriously ... unless you want the regular pub fare.

We decided we'd roll out of the restaurant so we started with two appetizers for the three of us. We chose The Medley of Dips. Generally it also comes with Taramosalata (Salmon Roe) but we decided to stick with Hummus, Tirokefteri and Tzatziki. The Trokefteri was by far our overall favourite. It was a combo of feta cheese, roasted red peppers, herbs and mmmmmmmmmmm. The Tzatziki was also garlicky and delish. I'm not a hummus fan so I'll leave that one up to you to decide.

Medley of Dips (Hummus, Tirokefteri, Tzatziki). This also comes with Taramosalata but we passed on it.

Warmed Greek Style Pitas
Our next appy was the Tyropita. It's a combination of four different cheeses in phyllo (feta, ricotta, kefalotiri, parmesan) with herbs. Very cheese-ey ... I'd try the Spanakopita next time because it's just spinach, feta and herbs ... I love my salty feta. This was very good and HUGE. I'm glad we only ordered two appetisers for three people. My dates loved this dish!

Now for the mains! Yum! I had the Chicken Souvlaki - It was as good as it looked. The potatoes were done perfectly and the chicken was moist and tender. The tzatziki made everything even better. I couldn't have asked for a better meal.
Chicken Souvlaki with rice, oven roasted Greek potatoes, Greek salad and Tzatziki sauce.

Date number one's meal. Okay, her food was even better than mine! Santorini chicken - The baked topping was so good we spent a good 10 minutes discussing how we could replicate it! Inside the chicken was stuffed with spinach and feta and topped with a creamy roasted red pepper sauce. While I didn't try her veggies I know I'd kill for that chicken recipe.

Date two decided on the Filet Mignon butterflied with a peppercorn sauce (medium well done). The steak was done perfectly and apparently should Gordon Ramsey appear he'd approve.

Baklava
My favourite part of the night! Baklava! It was a sweet and nutty heaven in phyllo! Date one said it was very sweet but that's the best part! Date two made a sarcastic remark that I was 'tucking into it' greedily. I finished and yes, I needed to be rolled out.
Vanilla Kadaifi

Also fabulous - We thought the bottom was shredded coconut but it's really pastry. It's a custard with whipped cream, cinnamon, nuts and phyllo. Someone couldn't finish hers ..... hmmmm.
Also note: The white wine is Apelia. It's really great Greek wine. I buy it from the LCBO occasionally. There is (of course) a mark up but it's so good to have with a fabulous meal .... you may as well go big or go home like we did! Try it!

If you were once a fan of the Greek Souvlaki house on Baseline Road this should now be your go-to-spot.

Check it out here www.pinelopis.ca

Ps. Make a reservation! It's really tiny and elegant!
